When you visit ActionFunder, use the platform, sign up to our newsletter, or communicate with us, you trust us with your information. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect about you, why we collect it and what we do with it.

Who are we?
ActionFunder is a platform that enables businesses and foundations to easily find and fund community organisations and charities. ActionFunder is owned and run by ActionFunder Ltd (“we” or “us”).

What data do we hold about you, how do we use it and why?
Information you give us when you use the ActionFunder platform:
Non-profit organisations
When you sign up as a Non-profit, we will ask for:
- Your name
- Your email address
- A password for ActionFunder
- A description of your Non-profit
- The location of your Non-profit
- The contact number for your Non-profit
- Your Non-profit’s website and social media handles
- Contact details (name and email address) of other staff or volunteers in your Non-profit
The information you choose to provide on your ActionFunder profile is available to view on your profile page which you can edit at any time. If any of your information is inaccurate or out of date, please update it as soon as possible.
When you create a project, we will ask for:
- Your project name and location and how much funding you require
- The problem or need your project will address and your motivation for doing it
- The solution your project will provide, the goal and expected impact of your project
- How your required funding will be spent
- Why you are best placed to deliver your project and any unique skills or experience you have that will make this project a success
We ask for all this information so that we can provide you with the service that you’ve signed up for when you joined ActionFunder. In order to provide that service, we will send you relevant email updates and notifications.
Do remember that if your project pitch contains sensitive data (e.g. information about your health, sex life, sexual orientation, race or ethnic origin, political opinions, religious or philosophical beliefs, trade union membership or criminal convictions), we will process this information on the basis that you have expressly consented to its use by us. It’s important that you understand that this information will be made available to anyone viewing your pitch on the ActionFunder platform.
Once your project has been uploaded to the platform, it will be available to view by potential funders and other ActionFunder users. If your project is matched with a potential funder, and you choose to accept the fund, you will then enter into a direct contractual relationship with that funder. Any data that you choose to provide the funder directly will be processed by them as a separate data controller and we won’t be responsible or liable for how it is used by them.
Funders
When you sign up as a funder, we will ask for:
- Your name
- Your email address
- A password for ActionFunder
- A description of your organisation
- The address of your organisation
- The phone number of your organisation
- Your organisation’s website and social media handles
- Contact details (name and email address) of other staff or volunteers in your organisation
The information you choose to provide on your ActionFunder profile is available to view on your profile page which you can edit at any time. If any of your information is inaccurate or out of date, please update it as soon as possible.
When you build a fund, in addition to asking you for the fund amount and the types and categories of Non-profits you’d like to support, we will ask you for your fund name and location and for a summary of the purpose of the fund which could include your data, if you choose to provide it.
We ask for all this information so that we can provide you with the service that you signed up for when you joined ActionFunder. In order to provide that service we will send you relevant email updates and notifications.
Newsletter subscribers
If you subscribe to the ActionFunder newsletter we will use the details you have provided to send you that newsletter on the basis of your consent. You can withdraw consent to receiving this at any time by clicking the “unsubscribe” link at the bottom of the email.
If you fail to provide us with your personal data, we will not be able to provide you with the ActionFunder service or certain parts of it.
Information we automatically collect when you use the ActionFunder platform:
When you use ActionFunder, we collect statistical data about your browsing actions including (but not limited to) traffic data, location data, preferences and the resources that you access. We may also collect information about the device you use to access ActionFunder, including your IP address, operating system and browser. We use cookies (these are small pieces of information that are stored on your hard drive by your internet browser, and are used by many internet sites) and similar technologies to collect this information. We process this kind of information on the basis of our legitimate interests to
- Help us improve ActionFunder
- Help us to run ActionFunder with troubleshooting, data analysis, testing, system maintenance, support, reporting and hosting of data
Who do we share your data with?
We may share your data with:
- Our third party service providers like our email marketing providers, payment providers and cloud storage providers
- If all (or the majority) of the information we use to operate ActionFunder is acquired by a third party, we may transfer your data to them so that they can continue to run ActionFunder
Do we link to other websites?
ActionFunder may include links to third-party websites such as our social media accounts. Clicking on those links may allow those third parties to collect or share data about you. If you follow a link to any of these websites, please remember that those websites have their own privacy policies and that ActionFunder is not responsible or liable for those policies.
How long do we keep your data for?
We keep most of your data for as long as you’re using ActionFunder.
You can delete your ActionFunder account at any time. If you delete your account, your Funder or Non-profit profile will no longer be visible on the platform, but we will keep your information for around 6 years after that to comply with the law and in case we face a legal challenge. In some cases (in the case of a complaint or if there’s potential for litigation) we may keep your personal data for a longer than 6 years.
To work out how long we keep data we consider the amount, nature and sensitivity of the data, the potential risk from unauthorised use of it, why we hold it and any legal, regulatory, tax, accounting requirements.
Where do we keep your data?
In some instances, our third party service providers might store your data outside of the UK. If that happens and the privacy laws of the countries where your data is stored are not deemed adequate by UK law, we will ensure that adequate safeguards are put in place to protect your data. What are your rights?
You have the right (in some circumstances) to:
- be provided with clear, transparent and easily understandable information about how we use your personal data and your rights, which is why we are providing you with this Privacy Policy
- access the personal data we hold about you and other information (like the information in this Privacy Policy)
- have your personal data corrected if it is inaccurate or incomplete
- have your personal data deleted if we have no legal reason for keeping it
- restrict us from using your personal data even if we can continue to store it
- request to transfer your personal data to yourself or a third party
- object to certain types of personal data processing, such as receiving our newsletter
- not to be subject to automated decision-making, including profiling, where the decision would have a legal or similar effect on you
